Our natural
approach
Our formulas are inspired by nature, adopting a simple less-is-more philosophy to ensure every baby receives the most wholesome goodness - as nature intended.
Ingredients inspired by nature
Goat milk is superior to cow milk as it is closer to human breast milk in taste, texture and nutritional profile. Goat milk has smaller, easier to digest fat globules. It is also lower in lactose making it significantly easier and more gentle on little tummies. Goat milk naturally contains only A2 casein protein, so it is less inflammatory than cow milk. Just as importantly goat milk is high in naturally occurring oligosaccharides and taurine, whereas cow milk has none. For growing children, goat milk is a much better source of milk because it has better bioavailability of key nutrients including iron, calcium and magnesium.
We fell in love with fresh whole goat milk for all these reasons and more, and its why we heat our milk only once - halving the heating process - to ensure we preserve all the natural goodness and essential vitamins. Read more on our From Fresh Process
Here at LittleOak, we are proud to be the world’s first 100% certified palm oil free formula.
Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil that comes from the fruit of oil palm trees. While this might sound positively tropical, palm oil is, in fact, high in saturated fat, which has long been linked to heart disease. More concerningly, palm oil is largely extracted from the palm kernel using chemical solvents like hexane - which is a form of petroleum.
Palm oil blocks the absorption of calcium, fat and DHA in babies and children - all essential building blocks for strong growth and development. Just as importantly, it’s not good for our environment. Palm oil has been and continues to be a major cause of deforestation, destroying the habitat of endangered species like the Orangutan, and contributing to climate change.
Human breastmilk contains a collection of essential fatty acids, which are required for normal development in little ones. In formulas, these important fatty acids are provided through oils.
Manufacturers can decide to use high quality oils like coconut oil and flaxseed oil or more mass-produced and cheaper oils including canola and palm oil.
At LittleOak, we use cold-pressed coconut and flaxseed oils to deliver the majority of our fatty acids. In addition, we must utilise sunflower oil because it delivers essential oleic and linoleic fatty acids.
Goat milk is naturally high in prebiotic oligosaccharides, which are naturally-occurring carbohydrates that feed the good bacteria. Prebiotics promote good bacteria in the gut, which supports and maintains overall health.
Our DHA and ARA are responsibly sourced from the highest quality clay extracted algae.
DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that supports brain function and development and plays a key role in cell signaling, lipid metabolism, cell membrane function and eye development.
Lactose is a milk sugar and is the most common carbohydrate found in breast milk. Goat milk has lower levels of lactose than cow milk making it more gentle on little tummies.
Lactose provides energy to support growth. We source and use naturally occurring lactose in our formulas to meet the required energy levels of growing babies and toddlers. Lactose also helps with mineral absorption and plays a role in shaping the composition of the gut microbiome by supporting the beneficial, or “good”, bacteria.
