Our top tips for Bedtime

Your first year of parenthood can be gruelling, exhausting and, for some, very overwhelming. Here at LittleOak, most of our team have little ones, and when asked what their number one tip for helping your little one sleep is, this is what they said:

“All about the routine! Repeat after me…Dinner > Bath > Bottle > Book > Bed”

“My top tips would be:
– Full belly when bub goes to sleep – knocking down that LittleOak goodness!

– White noise – small fan in the room to block out sound

– Dim lighting outside of the room

– Baby lullaby music with the feed/bottle

– Gentle pats when you place bub in the cot till they go into full sleep, then back away very quietly, tip toeing.

For mums – sleep in the day when the baby sleeps, you must keep up your strength for the night shift!!”

“As a Mumma of a 1-year-old, I know how important sleep can be. It really helps your whole day shine a little brighter. It wasn’t long ago I was really in the middle of dealing with newborn wake windows to 4 and 8-month sleep regressions. My biggest top tips would be to invest in a white noise machine or baby monitor that plays white noise ALL NIGHT LONG because the minute the noise stopped, the littlest was awake – meaning I was too. Also, make sure you communicate with your partner and tag-team on having some sleep-ins! Those few mornings lying in bed past 6am are bliss.”

“Another top tip for getting a newborn back to sleep would be to have a swaddle sleep bag that zips from the bottom up! Actual lifesaver. Bub can stay all snuggled and feeling safe while you change them, plus there is nothing worse than trying to wrap a wiggly crying baby at 3am in a swaddle wrap like a burrito with arms and legs in all directions.”
