Did you know that our immune system starts to develop whilst we are in our mother’s womb and continues its maturation process throughout infancy and early childhood? And it is because their immune systems are still developing that young children are more prone to catching communicable illnesses such as colds and flu, conjunctivitis as well as gastrointestinal infections.
So, where do you start when it comes to boosting the immune system? With 70-80% of your immune system located in the digestive tract this is a really good place to start.
GUT HEALTH
Your child doesn’t need to have diarrhoea or constipation to have compromised gut health; a sign that it needs some extra love is low immunity. Did you know that one course of antibiotics alone can alter the gut bacteria for 12 months or more? So often I see children who’ve had to have multiple courses of antibiotics in a short period of time – restoring gut health often gets missed and then the children continue to get sick.
Prebiotics and Probiotics
Prebiotics and probiotics can be effective in increasing immunity by boosting the healthy populations of friendly bacteria that regulate important immune defence chemicals. Taking a good quality broad spectrum probiotic can help support immune function and is a simple preventative measure. Natural unsweetened yoghurt, miso, kefir and fermented vegetables are a good source of probiotics. Goat milk is naturally high in prebiotics that promote the good bacteria in the gut leading to a healthy gut microbiome which supports and maintains overall health. Goat’s milk is higher in prebiotic oligosaccharides which are naturally-occurring carbohydrates that feed the good bacteria. It’s the high

concentration of the oligosaccharides that makes goat’s milk the closest natural composition to human breast milk and therefore better for your baby and child.
We don’t have to wait until our child gets sick to find ways to boost their immune system – there is so much we can do through diet, lifestyle, herbal medicine, the right nutrients and a good functioning gut that can get them on the right track early.

NATURAL BENEFITS OF GOAT'S MILK
-
Goat's milk, by nature and confirmed by science, is closer to human breast milk than cow's milk or soy, making it a natural and nutritious alternative to cow’s milk to help nourish children in their early years. Research highlights that goat’s milk may be more easily digestible than cow’s milk.
Goat Milk naturally contains A2 beta-casein goat protein and is a source of Magnesium, Calcium, Vitamin A and C. [R]

Ivah is Spilling the Tea on his LittleOak Journey
Looking back, not once did I imagine that our feeding journey for my son would be so difficult. We didn’t have latch issues. He fed perfectly but what happened after was the problem. After every feed, we were faced with hours of vomiting caused by reflux. It was pretty much feeding, vomiting and then feeding again. It felt like we never got a rest from the constant cleaning. Night-time would make me so nervous because we had up to 10 layers of bassinet sheets on his bed every single night, ready to strip them off one by one as he spilled onto them.
